The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is engaging in pre-application activities with Valar Atomics Inc. (Valar), a Torrance, California company developing high-temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR) technology. Valar is working on two DOE-related projects: the Ward250 reactor, which is authorized under the DOE Reactor Pilot Program and is now operating, and the NumenorOne HTGR, for which Valar has submitted a DOE authorization application under the DOE National Reactor Innovation Center Launch Pad U.S.A. pathway. Valar is pursuing a pre-application regulatory relationship with the NRC.
